Switzerland, officially called the Swiss Confederation, is a federal parliamentary republic made up of 26 cantons, with Bern as the capital. The country is situated in Western and Central Europe. Germany borders it on the north, France on the west, Italy on the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein on the east.It is a landlocked country, which is geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura. The total area of the country is 41,285 sq km (15,940 sq mi).
