Digha Shankarpur development Authority

Image
Digha sea beach is a popular weekend retreat to thousands of tourists thronging the place almost every time of the year. There are in excess of 1000 small, big and medium sized hotels and there is DSDA ( Digha shankarpur development authority) who collects a fee from each tourist visiting the town in the name of betterment of the place and to make it more pleasant and safe. Sounds good but reality contradicts the theory. DSDA has failed miserably to make Digha a better tourist attraction . The main problem that one faces as a tourist in this other wise lovely place is a dirty sea beach. The sand of the beach as can be seen from the picture is so polluted from the debris originating from a varied number of sources like sewerage , littering by public and of course cremation of dead bodies on the guard wall of the . Though such a large scale of pollution is continuing daily there seems to be no effort on the part of the DSDA to arrest ot tackle the menace. The DSDA should relocate the cre...

When I first heard Audrey Hepburn sing “These are a few of my favorite things” in the evergreen movie “ My fair Lady”, I never thought I’d have an occasion to present my own list some day. But you know what they say, “Every dog ahs his day”, and I got mine too. This Christmas, my dear owner in my eyes, is no less beautiful than Audrey. Hepburn herself, has asked me for a list of 10 things that I want. And God! I can’t wait to get started. To read more articles written by Babu Banik Please visit my article site

My 2008 New year Resolution

SAY NO TO CANCEROUS CHINESE FOOD No, this is not my resolution of dieting. But my resolve of not becoming a cancer patient by consuming Chinese delicacies from eateries in India. In a shocking revelation from a reliable source its learnt that Ajina moto or Monosodium Glutamate which is a common ingredient of chinese food is supposed to be one of the main factors of cancer in people consuming them for over a period of time. A study on 134 cancer patients suffering from stomach cancer by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Cancer Reaserch Institute has found that more than 50% of them had a history of consuming Chinese from the road side eateries that can be found everywhere in India. Why do these small and medium sized eateries use Ajina moto or Monosodium Glutamate inspite of it being banned by WHO ( World Health Organisation) way back in 2004? This substance enhances the taste of the food . Apart from enhancing the taste it also leads to stimulation which results in excessive secretion of ...

Conservation of the Rainforest Is Of Utmost Significance

The rainforest are the forest characterized by rainfall at high level, with the minimum annual normal scale ranges from 1750 mm to 2000 mm. The tropical rain forest is the considered to be the best-treasured wealth of the Earth. This is due to the fact that the tropical rain forest is home for thousands and thousands of new species of plant that are yet to be discovered and an innumerable species of them are used in the field of pharmacy. Scientific Value For the Rainforest The conservation of the rain forest is of utmost significance not only for a single reason but for a series of reasons. One of the major reasons is that the floral part of the forest turns the harmful carbon dioxide into fresh air thereby, combating the pollution. The vast rainforest tends to deter the greenhouse effect by the dint of the process of absorbing the carbon dioxide. The trees in the rainforest absorb and store the huge volume of carbon dioxide in their roots, steams, leaves and branches, thereby carr...

Me in Kovalam beach

Image
Source :- Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Kerala, a state in south India. It is located around 16 km outside Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) City in the Thiruvananthapuram district. There are a large number of beach resorts in and around Kovalam. The sea port of Vizhinjam is about 3 km away and famous for its special varieties of fish, old Hindu temples, big churches and a mosque. The Proposed International Trans shipment Terminal at Vizhinjam is also close to Kovalam. Kovalam was among the most prominent tourist spots in India during the hippy era. It still has a high status among tourists, who arrive mostly from Europe and Israel. Kovalam is finding a new significance in the light of several Ayurvedic salons, and recuperation and regeneration resorts which provide a wide variety of Ayurvedic treatments for tourists. There are three beaches at Kovalam, separated by outcrops jutting out to the sea. The larger one is called Light House Beach for its 30 odd metre high ligh...

Kovalam Beach

This international beach, 12 km south of Trivandrum city, is one of the finest beaches in India. A high rocky promontory jutting into the sea has created a beautiful bay of calm waters for sea bathing. The India Tourism Development Corporation had developed Kovalam as an integrated seaside resort which includes a string of cottages, the Halcyon castle, a shopping area, swimming pools, yoga centre, facilities for medicinal oil bath and massage and the Rajiv Gandhi Convention Centre with 1000 delegate capacity. The resort has 198 rooms with the four presidential suits in the Halcyon Castle, the Summer Retreat of the erstwhile Maharaja. The property has now been taken over by a private group, The Leela Group. Besides, there are numerous hotels managed by private agencies

Digha sea beach on a lovely evening.

I cant stop getting amused, seeing people buy loads of sea shell products from the shore side shops in Digha, thinking they are buying some local products from digha as a momento of their visit and also for gift purposes. Do they know that these shells are not from the sea near Digha? but are brought from places far off in the south India like from the beaches of Trivandrum,Rameshwaram and other beaches in the region.

6 oldest universities of modern India

Image
The seeds of modern western education were laid in the country along with the development of business and power of the British East India Company during the early 19th century. The company needed educated locals to carry out its business properly in India, and the local masses started feeling the need for proper certification of qualification for the purpose of serving the administration and other government departments. The result was the foundation of the first three universities of the country by Earl Viscount Canning, the British Governor General, in 1857. In a time of nationwide political disturbances and turmoil in the form of the Indigo Revolutions, the Santhal Revolutions and the Sepoy Mutiny, the country slowly progresses towards what we now know as proper institutionalized and global education. Intended to be a chronicle history of the foundation and development of this format of education in the country, our series would contain 6 episodes on the 6 oldest universities of mod...
